COUPLES AND FAMILIES
EMDR helps people to access and process what’s underneath these patterns—not just what’s being said, but the deeper emotional beliefs driving the cycle. People often carry unconscious beliefs like “I’m invisible”, “I don’t matter”, “I’m not good enough”, “I'm responsible”, “I’m not safe”, “I’m trapped” (Litt, 2007). These beliefs, often formed long before the relationship began, can silently shape how each person relates in the present.
By working with these deeper layers, EMDR supports not only individual healing but also emotional reconnection. It helps people become more available, less reactive, and more able to understand and respond to one another with compassion. This approach brings depth to couples and family therapy—moving beyond communication techniques into the kind of healing that allows for more clear, connected, and sustainable relationships—with others and with ourselves.
